1. Commitment to Accuracy
Every piece of content—articles, data visualizations, or maps—is reviewed for factual accuracy before publication. Because scientific findings, environmental observations, measurements, and official datasets can change over time, published information may later require correction or updating. When we identify a problem, we review the affected material and correct it where necessary.
2. How We Identify Errors
Errors can be discovered during internal reviews, through subject-matter feedback, or by readers. We welcome reports of inaccurate information, missing context, unclear wording, broken references, or data that may no longer reflect the latest available source. Readers can report a concern by emailing support@desertsoftheworld.com with the page URL, the information in question, and, when available, a reliable source that supports the requested correction.
3. Types of Corrections
- Minor Corrections: Spelling, grammar, formatting, broken links, and other changes that do not alter the meaning of the content may be corrected without a public change notice.
- Substantive Corrections: Changes involving factual errors, incorrect data, attribution problems, or wording that materially changes the meaning are accompanied by a visible correction or update notice where appropriate.
- Full Retractions or Revisions: If a page contains major inaccuracies or can no longer be considered reliable, it may be substantially revised, replaced, or removed. When needed, an explanation of the change remains available so readers can understand what happened.
4. How Corrections Are Displayed
When a factual change is substantial enough to affect a reader’s understanding, the affected page may include a dated correction or update notice. The notice identifies what changed and, when useful, the information that replaced the earlier version. Routine spelling, grammar, formatting, and technical fixes generally do not require a public notice.
5. Reader Communication
We aim to acknowledge correction requests within five business days. Reports are reviewed against reliable sources, and verified errors are corrected as soon as reasonably possible. We may contact a reader who submitted a report when additional information is needed to verify or resolve the issue.
6. Archiving & Transparency
Historical versions of selected pages may be retained internally when needed to track major factual revisions. Published correction or update notices may also remain on the affected page when removing them would make the revision harder for readers to understand.
